Clutter

Good Morning Lovies!

Today's topic, will be all about clutter.  Many of us, have a huge problem when dealing or feeling things are cluttered.  I for one am one of those people.  When my home is cluttered, my mind is cluttered and my mood automatically changes to feeling stressed and frustrated.  It is amazing how  piled up items in our homes or office can shift our moods. Here are some pointers on how clutter occurs and what we can do to change it.

How Clutter Occurs

You collect things for a number of reasons–maybe you think you’ll need to use it later, it has sentimental value, or you spent good money on it so you feel you need to keep the item, even if you haven’t touched or used it in weeks, months, or years. You might be holding on to that books you bought a year or two ago that you swear you’ll read or those killer pair of shoes that you’ll bring out for just the right occasion etc...

Whether it be your closet or office space, excess things in your surroundings can have a negative impact on your ability to focus and process information. When researchers looked at people’s task performance in an organized versus disorganized environment. The results of the study showed that physical clutter in your surroundings competes for your attention, resulting in decreased performance and increased stress. Also physical clutter overloads your senses, making you feel stressed, and impairs your ability to think creatively.

While clutter has been shown to negatively effect your performance, it is your perception of clutter that matters, not someone else’s.

“When you get up in the morning, if you have clutter right there in your face, it starts your day off on the wrong foot. When you have to start your day by looking for your keys or your phone, it makes you anxious and you haven’t even left the house yet!”
If you think you don’t have time to clear your clutter, think again. With an action plan from experts, you can bust the clutter in your home in 15-minute chunks every day -- and build yourself an oasis of calm that’s also less of a haven for dust, dirt, and allergens.
Before you de-clutter any space, prepare. You need  a few items, such as, bags, boxes, bins, etc.. Here is why. You must make different sets of piles.
  • Things you will donate to charity
  • Things you want to sell at a yard sale,on Craigslist,  and or Ebay
  • Things that belong in another room
  • Things headed for the trash
Now you’re ready to de-clutter any room. If there is something you don’t wear or use, but are on the fence about parting with it, stick it in a bin. Place the bin in your garage or attic, and write a future date on it -- one year or six months from now. (always label your boxes). This way if you really need something you know exactly where to go and get it. Also if you put dates on your boxes or bins, when the date comes around, if you didn't even bother to to open the box in the time frame, then just donate the entire pin, which means you don't need anything in there.

Closet Check List

Summary: Cleaning out your closet does not have to be a huge all day process. You can have a clean closet in just a few days with only a couple of hours of work and a great check list.

I wanted to share this with you, since I love putting ideas together or sharing things that i do, from organizing to Romance, Fashion, Beauty, Family... most of the things, I really do and the ones I don't i try doing them, but I never blog something that i don't do or I haven't given it a try.

Below are a few closet organization check list my friend shared with me, her and I think so much a like,we are always sharing ideas, with this said, below are a few tips on keeping an organized closet. Thanks Noemi, for sharing this with me, and of course the blogger that I am i have to post and blog about this.

Edit your wardrobe. Take a look at your clothes and assess what you wear most, least, or not at all. Donate the clothing you haven’t worn in a year or more, as well as anything that no longer fits. If an item is severely damaged, toss it out.

Decide what to store. Let seasonality and frequency of use be your guide in determining what to keep in the closet and what to stow elsewhere.

Organize hanging garments by type and color. Blouses, for example, can be sorted first by sleeve length and then by shade. By keeping like with like, options for a given outfit are clear at a glance.

Choose the right hanger. Your closet will look neater if you use just one type of hanger—wood, wire, or plastic.

Set up zones. A low rod holds tops and skirts; an eye-level pole, dresses; and a high bar, shirts and suits. A high shelf works fine for out-of-season shoes and sweaters.

Arrange folded items. Any clothing that will stretch out of shape should be folded over hangers. When organizing the folded clothing you’ll store on shelves, place heavier items at the bottom of the pile, and lighter ones at the top. After folding, arrange garments by function (workout tops together, business tops together, etc.) and color (white to nude to bright colors to black). If your closet doesn’t have shelves, consider using part of your clothing rod for hanging canvas ones.

Get a garment bag. A sturdy canvas garment bag protects fine suits, dresses, and jackets better than plastic. (Leather, in particular, is susceptible to drying and even cracking if kept in plastic.)

Deal with dry cleaning. Remove clothes from dry-cleaning bags as soon as you get home, and hang your clothes on proper hangers. Return the wire hangers to the dry cleaner for reuse.

Manage odds and ends. Store bags, belts, ties, scarves, and other accessories in plain sight on hooks or racks, which can be attached to the inside of your closet door.

Contain what doesn’t hang. Use containers—consider a matching set of baskets—to hold accessories and clothing that can’t be hung, such as socks and undergarments. Smaller baskets or boxes can store a single type of accessory, such as scarves or hats.

Pick a system for storing shoes. Choose between a shoe rack on the floor, a hanging shoe organizer, see-through plastic boxes, or original shoe boxes with photographs stapled to them to identify the boxes’ contents. Stow shoes you don’t wear frequently in labeled plastic boxes on a high shelf, in another closet, or under your bed.

Pillow

Who can forget that gorgeous Paul Smith pillow resting on Big and Carrie’s sofa in Sex And The City 2?
That simple yet elegant cushion is a prime example of a watercolor print, one of the new trends. Watercolor prints look like they’ve been painted on the fabric (some may actually have been) and add a sense of artistry to a space that you love.

Organizing Your Closet

At the beginning of every year some people like to go through their closet and clean it out. I like to clean my closet on a weekly basis, every time I do laundry I organize my wardrobe. Not only because it's messy, I consider my self pretty organized with my closet, but because sometimes it's just time to part ways with clothes you don't wear anymore (as hard as it might be). Here are some of my tips for cleaning out your closet and knowing when it's time to say good-bye to clothes:
Assess your Closet:
First thing you’ll want to do is take everything out your closet. Sort through the clothes and ask yourself these questions:

Has it been a year or more since I last wore this?
Does it fit?
Is it broken and can it be fixed?
Am I really going to wear this again?
Do I wear this on a regular basis?

Separate into Piles:
Once you ask yourself these questions separate into piles of things you wear on a regular basis, things that need to be fixed and garments that it’s time to say good-bye to.

What Needs to Go:
Get rid of clothes that don’t fit anymore, even if it was your favorite top you scored on sale or if you’re holding off in case it one day comes back in style. Clothes that don’t fit are just bad for your self-esteem.(not unless you are working out and eating right to fit back into them, at times it is my insentive), If an item has holes or stains ask yourself if it can indeed be fixed, If it can, then put it in your fix it pile and consult with your tailor, If not, then it’s time to part ways.

Host a Clothes Swap Party:
Don’t just throw away the clothes you don’t wear anymore. Consider hosting a clothing swap party. This is where you get with a group of friends and exchange the clothes you don’t wear anymore. Hey, one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure right? This is a great way of updating your wardrobe without even spending a dime. I do it with my sisters so my next one will be my friends. You could also donate the clothes to organizations such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Evaluating your closet is a perfect way to help you know what lives in your closet. Next time you go shopping you’ll know not to buy that green blouse (even if it’s on sale) since you already have one very similar already in your closet.

My Decor Selection Of The Day

Decor Of The Day. I am very much into the beige these days, I am trying to lighten up the colors in my house. I am currently working in my bedroom at this moment and since my dresser and my night tables are a darker shade of wood, I want to lighten up. My house has to many browns and to be honest I am a bit tired of it. I will post a picture of the bed i am going to order , once i get the bed situation square away I am still dabating if i should order it.
