A Better You With Just 5 Minutes

A Better You With Just 5 Minutes A day

Good Morning Friends,

Today I want to blog about how can we become more present or tune with ourselves.   Life is not easy, life can be very busy , intense  rewarding, confusing or overwhelming. Despite our busy schedule or the many to-do's we have on our list life can still feel empty and unsatisfying. Yet in a breath of a moment life can change. My mentality is very simple... I have been reading on this 5 minutes to your self in the morning and have taken it in. So I wanted to share my leanings and practices with you, a little at a time.

How to start:

Take the time,  just five minutes  every morning to be really present, to set a clear intention for your self, and throw your self wholeheartedly into an easy to follow practice.

Today I am going to start when waking up in the morning.

I read the following and I have been practicing this as well.  Remember, I am not going to blog about something I haven't tried or am doing. With that being said , Some of us wake up grumpy. Lets start by trying to write down all the good things that happened to you over the past week.  I know, it's not as easy as I you think. However; by making a mental list of a couple of sweet moments, you can sweep away your negativity and replace it with gratitude.

Here are some suggestion to help you trigger your memory.

A friend called you to say they miss you or miss your chats

You helped your elderly neighbor clean the snow of their property and they were so grateful, that you meant everything to them at that moment.

A friend or family member called you to say thank you for something you did to help them.

A stranger suggested that you go ahead of them on a long check line.  I know I have done this... actually feels good.

Someone smiled at you on your way to work, gym or anywhere.

The smaller acts or the briefest occasion is all it takes to remind you of the beauty in your life.

Tomorrow when you wake up, don't take 5 minutes, start by just taking 2 min.  sit in a quiet place.  I have a baby so my quiet place in the morning is the bathroom.  I sit on the floor for about 3-5 min and take the time to practice my breathing, to take in the good things that has happened and the good things I cherish, I also try to let go of the things that are bothering me.  Sit with your legs crossed Indian style, and start by trying to let go of the stress, close your eyes and take breaths in through your nose out through your mouth. Trust me you will feel a tad better and each day as you wake up do the same and increase the time from 2 minutes to 3 minutes, until you can sit for 5 minutes every morning. Tomorrow, start with 2 min with just the breathing techniques.

I will continue to blog about Taking 5 Minutes To Your Self at least twice a week.

Stay tune for Part 2 of this blog.

Snowed In Weekend

Snow Storm Weekend!

Hey y' all.  How was your weekend? As for me, well we all know the storm / blizzard that hit us this past weekend.  It was said to be the second largest in New York City.

Below is a picture of the boys trying to shovel.  This picture took place at 11:50 PM Saturday night.

What do you do when a storm is being announced  Well, in my family, we took no chances, we made sure we had everything we needed for the kids and ourselves.  Here are the things we had on our list that we purchased to get storm ready. Food, water is a must, batteries, bath room paper etc.  I have a generator just in case we lose power, but for those that don't own one, make sure you have flash lights at home at all times and batteries.   We also bought a few yummy snacks,  and loaded in fun home activities to do.  We had movies to watch, we had games to play, books to read... It was just a fun relaxing weekend. PJ's all day.  I also chose to leave my curtains of my living room open until our bed time, we was just beautiful sitting in the living room with your family watching movies as the snow falls.

I must admit, I am proud of myself I couldn't go to the gym but I did my treadmill and worked out at home. Yay me.

Hope you made the best out of your snowed in weekend.

Women Crush Friday

Women Crush Friday

My women crush Friday, goes to Khloe Kardashian.  She has become my working out inspiration.  I know what most of you are thinking... she has the money to be able to get her self to this point, and yes, this is true, however; this will not stop me, some of us have it easier than others and for sure Khloe, has it way easier than me, but this will not stop me.  I am in the process of accomplishing my goal to lose all my baby weight and more, and by reading and looking up at Khloe's health and fitness routine, this motivates me to keep going.

If you can't get your self to workout, due to tiredness, laziness, find someone or something that can motivate you!

Don't wait for tomorrow, start today!

There are so many bigger problems in the world than girls who think they're pretty.

The Importance Of Drinking Water

Reason to never stop drinking water

We all know that water is essential to keep us alive right?!. However, many people today do not understand the health benefits from water, and therefore do not meet their recommended daily intake.  Note***water is arguably the second most important compound life is dependent on; oxygen being the first, with this being said I decided to do some water research and post on how important it is to drink water. Hopefully we can all start the new year on a healthier path.

Water Helps You Maintain Normal Body Functions

Research has shown that water speeds up your metabolism, cleans the body of toxins and generally helps to make everything in your body run smoothly. Considering an adult male is usually 60 percent water, this all makes sense. You need that water to digest food, circulate blood, keep your mouth from drying out and do a number of other things we often take for granted. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty – be proactive about it.
Water Helps Your Everyday Helps Prevent Headaches
Earlier this year, scientists from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands found that patients who suffered from severe headaches and migraines enjoyed an improved quality of life by drinking about seven glasses of water a day. Drink up and stay healthy!
Safeguards Your Heart
Drinking a good amount of water could lower your risk of a heart attack. A six-year study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that people who drank more than five glasses of water a day were 41 percent less likely to die from a heart attack during the study period than those who drank less than two glasses. Bonus: Drinking all that water may reduce cancer risk as well. Research shows that staying hydrated can reduce risk of colon cancer by 45 percent, bladder cancer by 50 percent, and possibly reduce breast cancer risk too.
Brain Powers
Your brain needs a lot of oxygen to function at optimum levels, so drinking plenty of water ensures that it’s getting all it needs. In fact, drinking eight to 10 cups of water per day can improve your levels of cognitive performance by as much as 30 percent. The door swings both ways: Research shows that a dehydration level of just 1 percent of your body weight reduces thinking functions, so staying well-hydrated is super important for your mental performance.

The effects of dehydration
Dehydration can cause headaches, tiredness and loss of concentration. It is a problem particularly associated with aging, as older adults are less sensitive to mild dehydration, they drink less and take longer to re-hydrate. A deterioration of mental performance can also occur in mildly dehydrated younger adults. Children lose more water in perspiration in trying to keep cool so it is important to make sure they drink enough in hot weather.

Drink Up Friends!!!

Baby Budget Find

Baby Items that are not baby items.

Hello mommies.  Do you need ideas on what to buy your baby?  Sometimes we want things that are way beyond our budget and we can't afford.  Well fear no more.  Today I will help with ideas on how to find that baby throw that you want for your bundle of joy, or just a throw to decorate the baby's nursery.

Let's call it BUDGET FIND.

I 'm not sure what your plans are when it comes to  decorating your babies nursery, but for me this was very easy. Once I found out I was pregnant, and everything was good with my pregnancy, I immediately started planning, and browsing as to what I wanted for my baby.  When it came to decor, I knew I wanted to incorporate the colors grey, white, and black as my main, I would incorporate other colors but these were my main.  Of course, once you start looking around you come across tons of things and stuff that you want, I'm serious one can go crazy looking around.  I knew I wanted these colors, therefore; everything I looked for had to have my colors.  I also knew that I didn't want a character concept,  I just wanted these colors (call me crazy).

EIVOR Throw IKEA

I also learned quickly, that baby stuff are extremely expensive, specially when you have expensive taste like me.  I soon had to learn what I wanted to spend lots of money on and what I wanted to tone it down on.  So instead of spending $100.00 on that beautiful black and white throw i wanted for baby Ace, I searched around and found this one (picture above) from Ikea and get this.... just $25.00.  Yay, I was very thrilled and excited to have found this beautiful throw, this was not a baby item but I made it into a baby item and incorporated this to the nursery.  Amanzeballs !!!

See, with patience, time, imagination and effort you can find things you want for a lot less.

This my friend is my BUDGET FIND.

Ingredients In Your Kitchen

Here are a few ingredients you may find in your kitchen.

4 Beauty Ingredients Found In Your Kitchen

Image result for home ingredients

Coconut Oil. Coconut oil is a big beauty multitasker. Like manuka honey, you can replace a ton of your other products with just one jar! It’s been known to act as a hair mask (for extra smooth hair), makeup remover and even shaving cream. Coconut oil is also a popular choice for oil pulling because of its ability to extract toxins from the skin.

Lemon. Everyone can benefit from lemon, both inside and outside! Besides being a healthy, detoxifying addition to your water or tea, lemon is a great antibacterial ingredient for homemade body scrubs and hair rinses (make sure to dilute with water!).

Cucumber. I am a huge fan of cucumbers. Cutting up a fresh cucumber and using them as DIY eye pads may not be a long term solution for reducing puffiness or brightening those dark circles,  but it actually can help when you’re running low on Zzz’s and have to make an appearance out in public!  The one tip I recommend is to make sure they're cold,  this will help swelling faster.  Based on my research and browsing through the internet , cucumbers also contain antioxidants and flavonoids that can help with irritation.  I am a huge fan of making a daily antioxidant drinks with cucumbers  which if you browse through my blog you will see the recipe.

Oatmeal.  Seriously oatmeal has been my longtime favorite of all time home ingredient that I have used.  Yes, we can use oatmeal for facials friends!! I also blogged about this.  Mix up your oatmeal, honey and sugar.  (stay tune for my beauty tip on this).

Please remember, we all have different skin type, some of us are sensitive  normal etc... always try it first somewhere other than your face before completely using or applying  anything, you never know when you are allergic to something.

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal Yoga is one of the best things that you can do for yourself, as well as your growing baby. It's important that you find the right yoga practice for you. I attended to a prenatal yoga center.

If you are expecting and seem a bit confused here are some of the benefits.  (Always consult with your doctor first).  My doctor okay me, he encouraged me to work out and keep active.

Develops Strength -As baby grows within our body, more energy and strength is needed to be able to carry the weight.  Yoga poses strengthen our hips, back, arms and shoulders.

Balance- Our balance is challenged physically as the fetus grows within our body. Emotionally we are drained due to the increases in  of estrogen and progesterone. As we try to focus on holding and breathing through each yoga pose, we are able to fine tune our balance, physically and emotionally.

Relieves tension from lower back, hips, chest, upper back, shoulders, neck- As baby grows, more stress is put upon these specific muscle groups in our bodies.  We tend to have more of a lordotic/lower back curve due to the increased size of our bellies.  Our hips get tighter due to the added pressure of baby’s weight in our bellies. As our breasts increase in size, our upper back and chest have more tension, along with our neck and shoulders.

Nerves- Also helps through deep breathing, the nervous system goes into parasympathetic mode, which is responsible for relaxation.  When our bodies are in that mode, our digestions operate properly, we tend to sleep better, and our immune system is at its optimal.

Fitness Goals

New Year, New You, New Goals.

Here is what I am currently reading, which is a huge fitness inspiration to me.

Khloe Kardashian, has been on her own health and wellness journey over the last years, Over the past few months she has been regularly sharing snaps from her fitness regime on her Instagram and website account, and now the star wants to help motivate others to find their path.

"I am so excited about sharing my philosophy on how I live and the power of strength.. I hope to be an inspiration to readers everywhere on how they can create their own true strength and beauty inside and out,” Kardashian said in a statement.
"My fitness journey will be a life long journey," Kardashian wrote on Instagram earlier this year. "Fitness is not about being better than someone else… It's about being better than you used to be. I'm not where I want to be and who knows if I ever will be. But I am healthier than ever and due to my consistent workouts, I am slowly seeing results.
"About two years ago I decided to turn to fitness as a form of therapy and as a stress reliever," she revealed. "I started slow and eventually I started working out 4 to 5 days a week. We all have to start somewhere and doing something is better than nothing at all. Start small so you don't get discouraged and give up. Remember it is all about consistency. There are no quick fixes if you want long-term results."
Great book, truly inspirational.

Congratulations, you are pregnant!! Welcome to all types of body and skin changes.  Pimples, heat rashes, the list goes on my friends.

I was browsing through the net and came across some great tips on how to keep your skin healthy during pregnancy.

What causes our skin changes?
t's those pregnancy hormones at work yet again, causing your pores to secrete excess oil, making you vulnerable to heat rash, and visiting discolorations on your face, legs, palms, and soles. They're even responsible for a particularly unpleasant kind of skin eruption known as PUPPP (pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy), or lesions in your stretch marks. Skin tags, or small, raised growths on the skin, are common during pregnancy, too, particularly under your arms.

Expecting a pregnant glow

Were you expecting a pregnant glow? Few expectant moms get that lucky — and many experience just about every skin problem in the book. Fortunately, whether it's flash back to your baby days (with heat rash) or to your junior high days (with pimples and a greasy shine), just about all your skin symptoms will be a thing of the past within weeks of delivery.

What to do about skin changes during pregnancy:
  • Stick to the Pregnancy Diet. It contains the right balance of nutrients to keep your skin looking as good as it can — under the trying circumstances.
  • Get those eight glasses a day. Drinking lots of water will keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
  • If pimples are your problem, wash your face twice a day with a thorough but gentle cleanser (harsh ones will only leave skin more open to irritation). Exfoliate gently, too (don't get too aggressive), and finish off with an oil-free moisturizer. Overly stripped skin is more prone to breakouts. (Learn more about pregnancy skin care.)
  • Look for the words "noncomedogenic" and "unscented" when you're buying makeup and skin-care products. "Oil free" will be less likely to add excess oils and clog up pores — good if your skin is on the oilier side to begin with. But if your skin is dry, you'll do best to choose moisturizing products.
  • A supplement of B6 might help a tough case of acne. Talk to your practitioner about it.
  • If you see a dermatologist, always tell him or her that you're expecting. Some drugs commonly used to treat acne, like Accutane and Retin-A, should not be used while you're pregnant.
  • Taking too many baths can strip your skin of its moisture. Stick to short showers (good training for actual motherhood) in warm (not hot) water, and use a mild soapless cleanser. For very dry skin, try a moisturizer or put a warm-mist humidifier in your room.
  • For eczema, low-dose cortisone creams are usually safe, but talk to your practitioner and ask if he or she has recommendations.
  • For redness on the palms of your hands, sit tight. This condition disappears after you give birth.
  • Skin tags usually appear during pregnancy and disappear after delivery. If they don't, a dermatologist can remove them in a flash.
  • For heat rash, staying cool can help. Sprinkle on a bit of cornstarch after a shower and avoid tight or overly warm clothing. Dress in layers so you peel down if you get too warm.
  • For PUPPP, show any marks or rashes to your practitioner. They usually go away after delivery, but he or she might prescribe a medication.

Goals

Most of us write down resolutions, and many of us don't keep them.  I started mine right after.  I took new years day to relax, but the following day, I was on my grind.  Losing weight plays a huge role in my life and self esteem. I had a baby a year ago and gained 50 pounds in which, I have struggled to lose a lot of it, not because it's hard, but simply because of the lack of energy and dedication.  I must admit I did lose all my baby weight and I am currently at the weight I had before getting pregnant, however; there are a few things that need to get adjusted that were not there before baby and this is what I am working on.  I would love to lose 20 pounds which is what I am aiming to do before the spring rolls around, and this was the weight I was when I was dedicated to my workouts.

This picture was taken Saturday 1/2, where I started my goal/resolution, I will update you all on how I am doing  and where I am.  Once I complete my goal I will post my weight on the scale.  Wish me luck. I know I can do it, I am very determined  person, once I get my mind on something.

Let's do this together.  Let the new year begin!

New Years

What I did over the New Year weekend!

I absolutely loved my New Years Holiday.  Yes, I had to work new years eve, like a few people out there, however, this did not stop my joy.  I know we all always say the same thing about our families, but I swear I have such a fun, great amazing family that we know how to celebrate and have a good time.  We didn't get home until 4 am, and I didn't regret one moment of it. We ate, we danced, we laughed and we hugged... seriously,    I couldn't have had my new years start in another way.

What were your plans, what did you do?
